چکیده

An important problem is the removal of noise from input measurements and state estimates. Reverse engineering, or approximation, of black boxes within systems is also a highly relevant topic. Methods are given, including least squares methods and a Bayesian inverse approach, to perform these approximations. Real time methods are also considered, for example the Extended Kalman filter. A particular industrial application, that of emissions control in a car engine, is used to highlight these and test their suitability. Model Based Emissions Control CONTENTS

Microcalorimetry: a Novel Approach to Decision Making in Cut Rose Production

Since its innovative use by Lavoisier at the end of the eighteen-century, calorimetry has been one of the most important foundations of modern science. However, only recently, with the advent of modern and accurate sensors, has it to play a central role in the life sciences. The combination of calorimetric and respirometric studies resulted in a thermodynamic model that represents the rate of s...

Effect of Rosiglitazone on Bone Quality in a Rat Model of Insulin Resistance and Osteoporosis

OBJECTIVE Rosiglitazone (RSG) is an insulin-sensitizing drug used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. The A Diabetes Outcome Progression Trial (ADOPT) shows that women taking RSG experienced more fractures than patients taking other type 2 diabetes drugs. These were not osteoporotic vertebral fractures but, rather, occurred in the limbs. The purpose of this study was to investigate how RSG treat...

Scaffold Function of Ca2+-Dependent Protein Kinase: Tobacco Ca2+-DEPENDENT PROTEIN KINASE1 Transfers 14-3-3 to the Substrate REPRESSION OF SHOOT GROWTH after Phosphorylation1[C][W]

A molecular mechanism to ensure signaling specificity is a scaffold. REPRESSION OF SHOOT GROWTH (RSG) is a tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) transcription factor that is involved in gibberellin feedback regulation. The 14-3-3 proteins negatively regulate RSG by sequestering it in the cytoplasm in response to gibberellins. The N. tabacum Ca-dependent protein kinase NtCDPK1 was identified as an RSG kin...

A Reactivity Based Emission Inventory for the South Pars and Its Implication for Ozone Pollution Control

The South Pars zone in Iran encompasses the largest gas refineries and petrochemical complexes in the world. In the South Pars zone, elevated concentrations of reactive hydrocarbons co-emitted with nitrogen oxides from industrial facilities lead to substantial ozone production downwind. To understand the role of these emissions on the ozone formation and, to formulate appropriate control st...

14-3-3 proteins regulate intracellular localization of the bZIP transcriptional activator RSG.

Gibberellins (GAs) are essential regulators of many aspects of plant development, including stem elongation, seed germination, and flowering. RSG is a transcriptional activator with a basic leucine zipper domain that regulates endogenous amounts of GAs through the control of a GA biosynthetic enzyme. The ubiquitous expression of RSG in plant organs suggests an involvement of post-transcriptiona...
